Explains how you can filter content in your archives to display only specific content.

Configuring file filters

File filters can be applied to an archive to determine which files it should include or exclude from view. Some files, like the thumbnail cache files created by Windows Explorer or the icon files generated by macOS Finder, can be safely filtered out, as they provide no useful information when viewed in Fotostation’s thumbnail mode. In the Archive configuration in Fotostation, you can select one of the preset file filters or modify them to suit your needs. Three filters are also “empty”, meaning that you can rename them and customize them to include or exclude files as necessary.

Choosing a file filter

To open the configuration dialog in Fotostation, go to File/Fotostation > Configuration. Expand the Archives node in the configuration tree and select the archive for which you want to configure a file filter. Then choose a filter from the dropdown menu. The pre-configured filters are:

Default file filter: This filter is set to exclude files with the extensions db, exe, tmp, and txt. If you like, you can select Edit and add other file extensions to the list as well.

• Basic image filter: A filter that includes most image formats, including JPEG, TIFF, EPS, and PSD. Select Edit to add additional extensions to include in the list.
• Images and media files filter: This filter encompasses a range of image file types, as well as various video formats. You can change its file types by selecting Edit.
• Unused filters 1, 2, and 3: These filters can be customized to suit your needs. Select one of them from the list and select Edit to change the way they work and rename them.

Customizing a filter

To create your own custom filter from scratch, select one of the unused filters in the dropdown list and select Edit to change it.

Having created a filter, you can apply it to any archive you like by opening that archive’s properties in the configuration and choosing the filter from the dropdown list.
