Symptom Possible cause and solution #1 Possible cause #2 Solution #2

Symptom

After logging in and selecting a file in the FotoWeb web interface, the Edit, Crop, and/or Open buttons don't show, even though FotoWeb Desktop has been installed on the client.

Possible cause and solution #1

After logging in, you need to dismiss the message that tells you to install FotoWeb Desktop, if it is already installed, by selecting on I already have FotoWeb Desktop" Doing so will activate the FotoWeb Desktop features.

Possible cause #2

This can happen if the client does not have a working Internet connection. The mechanism that checks whether FotoWeb Desktop has been installed sends a request to localhost.fotoware.com:7999. If this server cannot be contacted because of a missing Internet connection, the operation will fail and assume that FotoWeb Desktop is not installed.

Solution #2

Configure your internal DNS to forward requests sent to localhost.fotoware.com to 127.0.0.1. This will route all requests to the local client and solve the issue.

You can also make the change directly in the client's host file.
